On our way back home from Fall Break at Brown County State Park, we stop in Columbus, IN for lunch and try a “New Thing” by eating at Zaharakos. This historic restaurant was pointed out to me by locals when I’ve been in Columbus for work, but I’ve never eaten there.
Zaharakos was opened by three brothers from Greece in 1900 as a candy store and grew to become one of the finest ice cream parlors in America. The restaurant was restored and re-opened in June 2009. It is a popular spot; we arrive early afternoon for a late lunch and have a short wait for a table. We enjoy sandwiches for lunch and of course, must have some ice cream. It is delicious!
